Welcome to the First-Generation First Quarter Challenge!

The FGFQ program offers opportunities for Social Science students to succeed in their first year at the university. FGFQ serves students who were the first in their family to attend college. Our program was developed by Social Science students, staff, and faculty who were also the first in their family to attend college. They know firsthand what it takes to succeed at UCI and are eager to offer their support, guidance and friendship to other first generation students as they settle into the university. You can read this article for more information about the first-generation experience. Check out the articles written about our program featured in the Huffington Post and Good Morning America!

This program will start Fall 2022! The First-Generation First Quarter Challenge is an annual program in which small groups of First-Generation freshmen and transfer students gather to share their experiences and establish a community. Meetings are weekly for workshops, sessions, and other activities designed to support a successful university transition. This is a co-curricular program and participation is voluntary. Enrollment is limited and free!
